Blue Girl canvas finished

Here's the completed version (I think!) of last night's canvas. Intended as a companion piece to this painting.

Blue Girl

I sketched out this canvas in August just before going on holiday and then promptly forgot all about it. I started painting it again tonight.

Annotated Weekender Guest Spot

My friend Joe List's genius blog, the Annotated Weekender, is one year old this week. To mark the occasion he's asked for people to contribute their own drawn on pages from last week's Guardian weekend magazine. Also contributing are Warwick Johnson-Cadwell, John Allison and Dan Berry so I'm in very good company. More, much more, on the Annotated Weekender blog.

The Dudehound

He may have a bouffant, a fancy sweater and a subscription to Monocle but the Dudehound still enjoys the simple things in life like a juicy bone or chasing a ball. He's still a hound!

Big Frames and Sheepskin

I love those late seventies B-Boys. Massive framed glasses, pencil thin moustache. sheepskin and narrow jeans with shell toes. I might have to start rockin' that look myself.

In colour and black & white. I couldn't decide. I need to go back to Japan again.

Prince Fendullis, y'know the owd fella from history, before he had that fight with the other owd fella from Greece or somewhere. Y'know, Alan or something. Yeah, that's it, Prince Alan. Prince Fendullis VS Prince Alan. What a fight that was!

Dwight - Start London windows

This week the Felt Mistress window display has gone up at Start London. It looks amazing. Brix has done a great job. It includes many characters I've designed with Louise. Here's my drawing of one of my favourites - Dwight. For more details, including videos of the windows being installed, visit Louise's blog. It's been such a buzz watching it come together over the last week or so. We haven't stopped grinning!

Hugh the Architect

I was in Smiths today looking at an article on the front of the local paper about what they intend to do with our derelict city centre Odeon when a well dressed old lady spoke to me. "My cousin designed that" she said, "It was one of his first buildings". Apparently, he was an architect based in London who designed quite a few cinemas. She told me had a big ginger moustache and was called Hugh. "He was more than 20 years older than me and I'm 80 so he's long gone now". This is what I imagined him to look like. Let's hope they honour Hugh's memory and turn this great building back into a cinema and not just another Brannigans.

RIP Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen died today. His work was always interesting and constantly evolving. We've lost a hugely talented individual. RIP Alexander McQueen.

A city

I had so much fun drawing buildings yesterday that I drew some more today and made them into a city. I've got the penthouse flat in the wonky building earmarked for me. Apparently, there's a good cafe in the foyer. Mmmm, foyer cafes!

Drawing buildings for fun

Today has been one of those days - one step forwards, two steps back. I drew this and had a cuppa to try and get back to my "default setting". I think it's worked. Fingers crossed.

Wendy World

Here's a recent portrait commission. I was asked to draw writer and journalist, Wendy Roby, by her fella, writer and journalist, Stuart Waterman. Stuart supplied me with a comprehensive list of "Wendy Things" which I had to incorporate into the pic. If you can spot most of the references - well done, if you can spot all the references - Hello, Wendy! Thanks for stopping by.

Old Ted

If you're lucky you can often see the lesser-spotted, yellow fingered old ted creeping out of the odd pub (the odder the better).

Unknown French woman

To follow one from my previous post "Unknown Frenchman", here's an unknown French woman.

Wednesday, 3 February 2010

Stare into the face of Gooto. Into eyes. Don't look at his mouth. He's very self conscious about his teeth. Ask Gooto a question. That's it. Ask him. Gooto is considering your query. Mmmmmm. Gooto is about to speak. Listen to Gooto. "Parsnips". Or maybe, "Harpsichords". Gooto says it's your fault if the answer is wrong. It was your inflection. What do you want from Gooto? Everyone want piece of Gooto. Questions all the time. Leave him alone. Gooto tired.

Protest Singer

I thought that if you had an acoustic guitar then it meant that you were a protest singer....

I don't know who this is but he's got to be French, hasn't he? Answers on a postcard..
