Illostribute - David Klein

The new Illostribute is up. The subject this time is the sublime poster artist David Klein. Above is my version of one of his beautiful Spain posters for TWA and below is the original. Have a look at the blog itself to see work from a brilliant array of illustrators.

Monster!

Louise and I will be headling this year's arts and music festival at Cafe Absinthe in Osaka in June (just the art side although Louise's rendition of Total Eclipse of the Heart is still a possibility). The name of the event is Monster (inspired by our work!). If you happen to be in or near Osaka in June come and say "konichiwa". This forms part of our residency at the Headspace Gallery in Nara throughout May. Here's the teaser image for the Facebook event page. More details soon...

Cloud in a box

Two new pics of the Inspector! Here he is inside his box, peering out at us through his little cloud-shaped, perspex window. Almost there, folks!

Also - an incredible illustration of Cumulus by the hugely talented Christian Nauck. It's like an illustration from a 1950s crime anthology - perfect! Christian is a Berlin-based comic artist and illustrator. Visit his blog and website immediately (once you've finished looking round here, obviously). Christian's partner is the equally talented Steffi Schutze. So much talent in one household! Look at their work and marvel!

Thanks to everyone who has pre-ordered Inspector Cumulus. It's very much appreciated. The special offer price is still available until April 15th on the Crazylabel website. There will be a launch at London's brilliant Playlounge at some point in May/June. Rest assured I'll keep you informed once we have a definite date. In the meantime here's some pics of the box being printed. Exciting! -

And also some amazing Cumulus interpretations by some very talented friends -

Jason Bennion

Laurie Pink

Dan Berry

Joe List

Warwick Johnson-Cadwell

Stuart Linfield

Laurie's was produced as part of her 24 hour drawing marathon for Comic Relief so an extra loud round of applause for Laurie, please!

More Cumulus news when I get it.

Graphic Bankers

Been busy recently so I haven't had a great deal of time to draw just for the blog so here's a recent commission to bridge the gap. It's an illustration for Property Week about "The Rise and Fall of the Party Bank". I was asked to use only the colours from the Anglo Irish Bank's logo and to approach the illustration more graphically than I usually do. The key was to keep the figures fairly anonymous and to reflect the bank's logo. A really enjoyable job.
